Dr. Grigsby is our Founder and Medical Director. With a background as a researcher, teacher, and clinician, he brings an unusual complement of skills to the Napa Pain Institute.
Dr. Grigsby attended elementary and secondary school in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee and attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where he received his Bachelors Degree in Biology and Economics.
Dr. Grigsby formed his interest in Medicine as a career while working at Boston Children's Hospital in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He worked with children with severe spinal deformities, cerebral palsy, and other disabling orthopedic conditions. Impressed with the orthopedic advances, he was distressed at the persistent pain and suffering in these young patients.
After graduating from Boston University Medical School in 1984, Dr. Grigsby trained in Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After 5 years of post-graduate training, he taught at the Mayo Medical School and was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic. He was also the Founder and Director of the Pain Management Service at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Grigsby's writing is published regularly in peer reviewed medical journals, and he has several patents relating to new treatments for pain. He speaks nationally on the topics such as non-operative treatment of spinal disorders, medications for treatment of pain, and the legal and regulatory issues relating to proper treatment of patients with pain.
Dr. Grigsby and his staff are most proud of their caring and compassionate approach to the treatment of patients with chronic pain.
