Like many physicians, Dr. Sami Hamamji chose a career in medicine because he has a sincere desire to help people get well. He believes in providing the highest quality and most up-to-date medical and surgical care to his patients in a caring and compassionate way.
Dr. Hamamji received his medical degree from St. Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon. A year after starting his general surgery residency at Rizk Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon, he moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he completed his internship and his general surgery training at the hospitals of the University of Montreal, obtaining certification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Later, he passed the American Board of Surgery exam and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hamamji actively participates in the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) at St. Joseph Hospital which is honored to hold the designation as Comprehensive Center for bariatric and metabolic surgery.
Today, Dr. Hamamji maintains an interest and expertise in a wide range of areas, including laparoscopic bariatric surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is an active member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Hamamji is also interested in cutting-edge technologies including the use of robotics for minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Hamamji is fluent in French, Arabic and English. When he is not working, he enjoys soft and classical music, contemporary authors and fine arts.
