Dr. Yung Lyou is a hematologist-oncologist and an early phase clinical trial investigator at the St. Jude Crosson Cancer Institute. After watching several close family members cope and suffer with cancer, he chose a career in medicine so he could personally give back to help others.
Dr. Lyou graduated cum laude from Columbia University. Afterwards, he attended State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY Upstate), and received a combined M.D., Ph.D. He then completed his internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship training at UC Irvine Medical Center. Prior to joining Providence St. Jude he was on the faculty at UC Irvine and then City of Hope doing clinical research and teaching residents and fellows. He has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and presented research abstracts at various international conferences (ASCO, AACR, and EMBO).
Dr. Lyou’s areas of expertise and clinical interests include genitourinary (prostate, bladder, kidney), lung, and gastrointestinal cancers. As a clinical investigator, he is also constantly working with the research team to help St. Jude cancer patients who no longer have available standard treatments get early access to experimental agents through clinical trials.
